A Little More About Second Take Sound
Celebrating the timelessness of well-crafted recording
We are proud to be an independently owned-and-operated recording studio. This gives us the ability to put people first, and to offer flexibility to make projects happen that otherwise would not be possible. We work hard to create meaningful opportunities for our engineers, our clients, and the larger musical community and environment.
We partner with local schools and audio engineering programs to offer hands-on, educational internships that provide a rare opportunity to take part in meaningful work and build relationships in a world that has too-long existed "behind closed doors." We also do our best to work with clients of any budget, and always offer our honest feedback on the best ways to allocate time and resources on any project.
From interns & assistants to engineers & producers, Second Take Sound is made up of an ever-evolving and growing team. We are proud to say that everyone on staff here makes at least what MIT has calculated as the hourly living wage here in New York City.
Where It All Began
Second Take Sound is owned and operated by Reed Turchi, a musician/producer/engineer who got his start recording North Mississippi Hill Country Blues out of portable rig in the back of his car. Since then, he has worn many hats in the (oxymoronical) “music buiness,” including as Label Director / Producer at Ardent Studios, Memphis, and on-stage performing his original music around the world.
As a studio, Second Take Sound exists in the space that was originally built as GSI Studios in 2016 (co-founded by Austin White, Eric Harland, and Josh Guinta), with the studio design by Joe Salvatto.
Literally and metaphysically the origins of the studio exist in the need for a space to create: rehearsal studios, bedroom mix-rooms, portable rigs, intimate performance venues, and more. The studio exists as a continuation of that, and welcomes any and all outside projects and engineers to make the space a new home for themselves.
